TEN U. S. ATTORNEYS AND THE IOWA ATTORNEY GENERAL SPONSOR THE 7TH ANNUAL 'PROTECT OUR CHILDREN' CONFERENCE IN DES MOINES
Hosted by the U.S. Attorneys from Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, and
Indiana, and Iowa Attorney General Thomas J. Miller, the Protect Our Children's conference will bring together more than five hundred law enforcement, victim services, medical and legal professionals for a three-day conference to focus on the safety and future of our children. U.S. Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt will present the opening remarks for this conference and be available for interviews after the start of the training sessions.
Keynote Speaker Patty Wetterling will share her story concerning the abduction of her son in October 1989. In 1994, the 'Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act' was enacted requiring sexually violent offenders to register. Another featured presentation includes the law enforcement and community response to the homicide of Coach Ed Thomas at the Aplington-Parkersburg High School.
