The Iowa lnternet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, in partnership with the Iowa Attorney General's Office, is a strong community resource in the effort to educate the general public and law enforcement about the risks and potential hazards that are present while on-line and increase awareness of the recommended safeguards that can help to prevent the victimization of our children.
An unfortunate truth is that we cannot "arrest our way out" of this problem. The goal of the ICAC Task Force community outreach initiative is to raise awareness while decreasing the size of the potential victim pool. The Iowa lCAC Task Force offers a variety of public educational and community awareness programs for schools, youth organizations, civic organizations, companies, and almost any other group specifically designed to present current and accurate information regarding the very real danger of online child sexual exploitation. These programs also address other serious problems include sexting, cyber-bullying or harassment, and other behaviors that have in some cases led to the deaths of children. Many of these acts are done without knowledge or concern for the fact that a serious crime may be committed, and can result in youth becoming involved with the criminal justice system.
